Treat Your Pets to a Natural Flea Remedy
Fleas are a distracting and painful experience for your pet. Most chemical flea treatments work quickly and are easy to use. However, some people and pets are allergic to the chemicals in them. This can lead to a rash along with burning and itching. Luckily, there are natural flea remedies available that are very effective in getting rid of fleas
To start, wash all bedding, rugs, and furniture that your pets come into contact with throughout your house. Next sprinkle a natural flea remedy of dried pennyroyal, mint, or pyrethrum on your carpets, furniture, and anywhere your dogs sleeps. Repeat this daily for three to four days.
The second part of this natural flea remedy is to steep pennyroyal leaves in boiling water. Allow it to cool. Wash your pet with a natural shampoo. This can be made by mixing one cup of dishwashing detergent with two teaspoons of eucalyptus oil. After shampooing your pet, use the pennyroyal tea to rinse it off.
If your pet continually attracts fleas, consider planting Pennyroyal outside. This will stop the fleas before they make it into your house. Plant it in areas where your dog hangs out when it is outside. The pennyroyal will continue to grow. It not only takes care of the fleas, it is attractive and it has a very pleasant flower smell.
Another natural flea remedy is to make a small tube that your pet will wear around the neck. This tube will be stuffed with pennyroyal and some drops of eucalyptus oil. You will need to re-stuff and oil the tube every few days for it to be effective. A flea trap you make at home also works well as a natural flea remedy. Simply fill a cookie sheet with water. Place it under a light close to the group. At night, the fleas will jump from your pet to the light, drowning in the water.
Keeping your grass cut short will help eliminate fleas. The heat from the sun will kill their eggs before hatching. Try to keep your pet away from dark, wet areas where fleas often lay their eggs.
